Health Minister Speaks as Zika Cases Reach 156

This Monday the Minister of Health Francisco Javier Terrientes announced that the baby who died at Hospital del Nino, was not affected by the Zika virus despite the initial diagnosis from Health Authorities, which stated the baby tested positive for Zika.

As the number of cases of the Zika Virus reached 156 on Wednesday March 23, Health Minister, Francisco Javier Terrientes, said “the Ministry may have an extraordinary credit of $10 million which will increase staff dedicated to fighting the virus”.

New cases have been registered in the regions of Panama Metro, in the province of West Panama,  and the Guna Yala region. While a countrywide health alert has been in place since February 16, it is unclear what measure have been put in place thus far to contain the Virus.
