Panama Remembers Victims of 1989 Invasion

On the morning of 20 December 1989, a few hours after the start of the U.S. military invasion on Panama, President George W. Bush gave the official justification for the invasion. Today over 25 years later, those who lost their lived during the invasion are remembered. 

Vice President Isabel de Saint Malo de Alvarado was in attendance on Sunday to mark the 26th anniversary of the US military invasion of Panama. The vice president was accompanied by ministers and relatives of the victims whom urged the government to declare the date a day of national mourning.

On Friday, President Juan Carlos Varela signed an executive order declaring Dec. 20 as a National Day of Reflection and ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff. The day ended in the afternoon at the National Institute of Culture will march to remember the victims of the 1989 invasion, finishing in El Chorrillo.
