‘The 39 Steps’ - Ancon Theatre Guild Play
The Theatre Guild of Ancon has taken on the production of ‘The 39 Steps’ a melodrama adapted from the 1915 novel by John Buchan and the 1935 film by Alfred Hitchcock. The play's concept is performed with a cast of four actors.
One actor plays the hero, an actress (or sometimes actor) plays the three women with whom the hero he has romantic entanglements, and two other actors play every other character in the show: heroes, villains, men, women, children and even the occasional inanimate object.
The play often requires lightning fast quick-changes and occasionally the actors have to play multiple characters at once. Thus the film's serious spy story is played mainly for laughs, and the script is full of allusions to (and puns on the titles of) other Alfred Hitchcock films, including Strangers on a Train, Rear Window, Psycho, Vertigo andNorth by Northwest.
The 39 Steps directed by Giancarlo Benedetti & Rob Getman stars, Jirac Caro, Ana Victoria Esquivel and Jose Manuel Lopez to play the iconic characters. Also joining the cast is Broadway actress, Ingrid McCartney who will be on a Panamanian stage for the first time.
The 39 Steps shows runs 8pm shows, October 8 - 10, 15 - 17, 22 - 24. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased from the Guild’s website anconguild.com
