Canadian Missing in Panama
Canadian Robert Ian Gray, born in Etobicoke Canada, living in England and visiting Panama to collect a debt has been missing since September 25, 2015. He was last seen around 12:20 p.m. at the Centro American Hotel in Panama City, where he was last staying. His belongings are still in the hotel.
According to his lawyer, Carlos Sanad Espino, Robert arrived in Panama on September 9th with the purpose of collecting a debt. In 2009 he gave a couple 850,000 Euros with the promise that 1.5 million Euros would be returned in one year. Robert received only one payment of 100,000 Euros, and in 2011, he filed a case against the couple for fraud.
Upon visiting the couple’s apartment early this month, Robert was arrested by the police on the charge of psychological harassment. He spent 3 days in jail, until his lawyer Carlos Sanad Espino gained a conditional release.
Mr. Espino said Robert was suffering from extreme stress over the situation and he is concerned that he could have taken his own life. If any one has any information about Robert or has seen him, please call immediately at 6820-7387 or the Canadian Embassy in Panama at 294-2500.
