Cyclist Mónica Licona dies in Hit and Run

On Sunday night over 1000 people gathered to morn the death of cyclist and triathlete, Mónica Isabel Licona de Zepeda who died in a hit and run accident Sunday Morning on Avenida Balboa.

Mónica, 22, was cycling early Sunday Morning on the cinta costera, training for an upcoming event in Chilibre. She was struck by a white kia, which according to preliminary reports, was believed to be abandoned by the driver on Agenda Mexico after fleeing from the scene.

Licona was rushed to the National Hospital where she died at 6 a.m.
Quiroz called the action of the driver "irresponsible," and announced that they will demand the government act to increase the safety for cyclists.

Licona represented Panama in the 2011 Central American Games, the Pan American Games in Medellin, Colombia, and the Central American and the Caribbean Games in Puerto Rico.
