Varela meets with Castro in Cuba

Juan Carlos Varela the president of Panama met with Cuban President Raul Castro, for the second time this year. The Presidents met at the presidential headquarters in Havana

on last Thursday, September 10. Varela arrived in Havana with several government officials, including the Vice President and Foreign Minister Isabel de Saint Malo de Alvarado.

”I bring to Cuba an embrace of the Panamanian people and my willingness to launch a new era in our relations," said Varela.

The two leaders discussed several topics including trade and tourism. Earlier this year, Panama and Cuba signed an agreement which establishes new immigration policies that will allow the nations to exchange security information.
