Panama's Broadband at the Bottom

In a study of 17 Latin American countries, that was conducted by the Latin America Economic Commission, Panama’s broadband service rated low. The service was four megabits per second, which is four times slower than the service in Uruguay. The fastest speed available was 16.96 Mbps.

In all fairness, Uruguay has exceptional connection speeds which exceeds many parts of the United States and Canada. However, studies show many companies devote their efforts to expanding service over improving quality.

Don’t expect your broadband speeds to improve anytime soon, Roberto Mendoza, executive director of Cable & Wireless, said the speed is adequate and "above the average suggested by the UN”.

Interesting fact: Panama has 6.2 million active cell phone lines, 88 percent of which are prepaid.
