10 yr. old paddles to Taboga Island

Fourth grader Jose Maria Varela was among some of the best paddlers in the country participating in the Taboga Challenge, a 7.8-mile paddle from Veracruz to Taboga.

The event took place on Saturday November 25th, and was organized by Panama SUB company. The event was open to all paddle sports including stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, etc.

Varela’s 7.8-mile paddle on a small board took him 2.5 hours. The 10-year-old caught a boat back to Veracruz after taking a short rest on Taboga Island.
