It is Time to Shake it Up
Last week I wrote on Resolutions-Goals-Aspirations. After I finished that article I had came to realize that every year I do try and do something new something that I never thought I would ever attempt or try to do. I used to be one of those that would say; "No thank you, that is not for me" or "What! I would never do that" or how about "I don't think that is just not in the cards for me". I truly thought at the age of 27 that I was going to be an overweight spinster with 3 cats, my pack of cigarettes on my left and a life of regret. I just read a great quote the other day "Failure to Fail is Failure to try". I have had some failures through my journey back to health and wellness, but those failures were necessary to getting me where I am today. I can honestly say today the regrets are few, and WE only have 2 cats and a puppy.
Before the New Year rang in, I decided to try something new while I was back in Toronto, to help me feel better to help me wake up every morning feeling good. We have been in Panama full time for just over a year. Our lifestyle became healthier the minute we stepped foot off the plane. Our windows and doors are open all day, we are more active than we have ever been, we are eating well and for the most part feeling good. Despite this healthy lifestyle, I was experiencing headaches, and once or twice a month I would just want to sleep the day away, along with some other uncomfortable symptoms. I drank more water, cut back on my desserts, starting running a little more, sweating a little more and still I was just not feeling 100%. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't eat salt, what else did I need to give up, the answer was nothing.
While back in Toronto for a week I was introduced to a 'Nutritional Body Cleanse'. I had tried a few in the past, and felt even worse than when I started. This cleanse however peaked my curiosity. It is 90% organic, there are no starvation tactics and after reading the testimonials and google'ing this product I found it had received tons of positive feedback. Ok why not, lets give it a shot. So I started drinking some shakes and some fruity drinks and I followed a 30 day program as best as I could. I was not perfect, it was the holidays but I finished the 30 days and guess what - I felt GREAT! I lost a few inches, I lost a few lbs, I had more energy and I started waking up feeling good again.
To Cleanse is to rid your body (blood, organs) of toxins and to rid your body of pollutants that we all breathe, eat and drink everyday. I googled and researched the philosophy of cleansing. It seems that this act of ridding toxins from ones body goes back thousands of
years. Body purification has been a part of the rituals for health and well being. It was used in ancient times as a way to connect with the divine. I don't know about connecting with the divine, however I do know that I would like my insides to match my outsides. Our bodies do the best they can to do this on a daily basis, but they don't get it all. Through drinking a few chocolate and vanilla shakes and sipping some fruity cleanse drinks for as little as 9 days, my body felt lighter, cleaner and I gained some new unfound energy.
My very very skeptic sister did the 30 day Cleanse with me back in November. She hid the box of Shakes in the closet and just before I walked out the door to head back to Panama I made her promise to at least try it for one week. My sister has been battling with nutrition and weight for most of her life, so she really had nothing to lose. It was the morning of Day 6 that I received a call. My sister was thanking me and could not express how great she felt and the compliments that she was already receiving on her skin, her physique and she was told that she was looking vibrant. She had tears in her eyes, as she told me it had been a very long time since she received such feedback.
I don't care how old or young you are. It is never to early or too late to try something new, to try something that just might be good for you or fun. I have a friend who has never really done any form of formal exercise in her life. She is one of those people that just
looks great all the time, she eats well and is active but has never really gone out and got her heart pumping and her body sweating. I just saw on her Facebook that she has joined a "Women's Triathlon Series" in Canada. She is going to start training and is going to go
out and do a Triathlon. She even posted that she has never tried something like that in her life and is looking for support. I love it! She is truly shaking it up and is making this year a year of change.
It is time to liberate yourself from the habits you no longer need. We live in a beautiful country that is filled with good stuff. There is so much to do, so much to get involved in and there is an opportunity for all of us to become the best we can be everyday.
