Panama's Best Kept Secret - La Teca Restaurant

Opening their doors in Coronado, this February, La Teca adds a new culinary experience to a rapidly growing area. While researching the restaurant's background, we stumbled upon an exciting piece of information that La Teca humbly holds close to it's heart. Eugeni de Diego and Miguel Angel Mayor are partners in La Teca, who bring their leadership to the Restaurant. Eugeni de Diego and Miguel Angel Mayor come from El Bulli, in Spain and have cooked (still do) under Ferrán Adriá who is considered to be the best Chef in the world. If you are wondering what El Bulli is, do a google search. I promise you, that what you find will excite you about La Teca opening at the beaches.

Along with de Diego and Mayor, La Teca was conceived by a group of friends with residences in or near Coronado. The group took on everything from the structure to the concept. Their plan was to have a place to savor the best of foods and enjoy great wines with friends and family.

Offering an exclusive selection of wine and spirits, La Teca's vintage offerings are meant to complement and enhance the flavors of the dishes. The restaurant boasts three specialized temperature controlled cellars, holding over 65 wines from Spain, Chile, Italy, and California. The restaurant also offers a selection of traditional Spanish liquors like Pacharán, Orujo and Herbs liquor. Many items on the wine and liquor list, won’t be found anywhere else in the area.

While de Diego and Mayor come from a background in cutting edge culinary creativity, don't expect to see liquefied olives or reconstructed corvina as your main dish. The menu at La Tecaincludes a variety of traditional Spanish dishes like Paella, Fideuá, Huevos rotos. You will also find the highest quality Iberic ham, cut right off the leg at your table. Expect La Teca to use only the freshest and highest quality ingredients. The La Teca’s staff undergo training and on-going mentoring programs in the preparation and service of food.

Expect to pay $40 - $70 for a dinner for 2 with appetizers, main course, desert and wine on a regular night. La Teca is located in the Village Mall in Coronado, on the 1st floor. They are open for lunch and dinner from noon – 11:00 p.m. For reservations call (507) 240-2101 or (507) 240–2102.
