El Pampero: The best sausages in the Pacific beach area
People are always asking where to buy the delicious sausages that end up on BBQ grills at Pacific beach house parties. Parrillada El Pampero, which many simply call the green building across from Banco Nacional, is the place with the amazing chorizo. It has been in business for over 30 years. The open air restaurant is popular among locals and is economically priced. The outside looks much like your local fonda, but the place is actually quite large - there are more than a dozen tables inside. The walls are decorated with Panamanian handcrafts and the ceiling with bamboo sticks. The service is friendly, and the customers relaxed. A saying at Parrillada El Pampero is "se come rico, no rapido" (eat well, not quickly), which sums up the atmosphere well.
The menu has a range of options from steak to salad, but their specialty is their chorizo which comes in several varieties including Spanish, Argentinian, and Butifarra. My favorite is the Spanish chorizo, served with their salsa aljio (garlic sauce) and papas fritas (fries). The restaurant serves sodas and juices, but not beer or alcohol.
The chorizo is made in house, along with three varieties of sauces, a hot sauce, garlic sauce and a chimichuri sauce. You can also buy chorizo by the pound for $5.00/lb, along with all of their homemade sauces - making it a great place to stop if you are planning or attending a bbq.
Their hours are 8:00 am - 8:00 pm Monday to Thursday, and 8:00 am - 10:00 pm Friday & Saturday. The restaurant is located on you right hand side, coming from the city towards Coronado. It is about 5 minutes before the entrance to Gorgona, across from the Banco Nacional.
