La Ruina Historical Restaurant

La Ruina (The Ruins), is a historical restaurant & bar in Gorgona. This old tavern is a large two-story building and has several decks.  The theme of the building is definitely ‘Old Gorgona.’  The owners have over 100 pictures from the town of Gorgona, dating back over 80 years.  These pictures are placed on the walls of the tavern and create a sense of the old town and the people who lived here. Turn into Nueva Gorgona From the Panamerican hwy.  Follow the road 2km. Turn right, at the soccer feild. You will find the restaraunt on the coner, on the way to the fish market. Look for the concrete parking area.

Setting:

This is a large pub / restaurant.  It was built from the ruins of an older building. The inside has high ceilings with a multitude of flags from various countries as well as an ‘historic wall’. Askfor a tour of the building and about the history of the town. The tables are high and made of wood.   The two bars are stones from the original ruins.  This restaurant is perfect for private functions, it has a large back yard as well as an open second floor.

Parking for many cars in front and more across the street.

Menu:

Some of the items on the menu are in English others in Spanish, as much as it is limited to 10 items, there is something for everyone.  Fish, steak, chicken, pork, pasta, hamburger, and sandwiches.   Appetizers are from $2.50 to $6.50, Main dishes range from $3.50 to $11.95 and Deserts are at $2.50 and $3.00. La Ruina has daily specials, including Langostinas (jumbo shrimps) for $11.95 and Osttones (oysters) for $7.95.  Furthermore, there are items not mentioned on the menu such as grilled chicken burger, chicken fingers as well as nachos.

Regular selection of soft drinks, juices and water as well as local and imported beer.  Mixed drinks and cocktails are also available.

Wine can be purchased by the glass at $3.00 or by the bottle at $12.00.

Comments:

La Ruina can be rented out for special parties.  Breakfast is available on the week-ends, by reservation only, for groups of 20 or more.  On Thursdays local  expats  gather to play darts and Jumbo Jenga. Often they will host special fiesta nights with music or bands.
