Success Stories Abound at Finca La Maya

Tao, the son of a surfer from Palmar, is an awesome success story from Finca La Maya. When he first arrived at the age of 4, it was obvious that Tao had tons of talent. However, he was so hyperactive that he could not concentrate to finish his projects.   Through Finca La Maya’s free Art Classes and help from his family, Tao learned to use his energy as an advantage when creating his projects. With lots of inspiration from the teachers and students around him, Tao further developed his talents and now is a diligent worker, which is a skill he will need all of his life. Though once Tao could not concentrate to finish a project, he now looks forward to Art Class every week so he can make and complete a creation of his own.

WHEN GIVEN OPPORTUNITY, THE YOUTH OF PANAMA WILL SUCCEED!

Another great success story from Finca La Maya is Alex Martinez, a young gardener from San Carlos. He dreamed of going to a University in Penonomé with hopes of a better job.  Studying at school, and reading newspapers in English, however, just wasn’t enough to help him pass the entrance exam.

“I want to learn English for many reasons: for interpreting, to find a better job, because companies need workers speaking English now. [With English] You can travel to other countries, have better opportunities, and learn more. I need to change my life,” concluded Alex.

Alex became one of the first students at Finca La Maya’s free English Classes. He knew that there was opportunity for him to succeed at improving his life, and he never missed a lesson. Thanks to Finca La Maya, he learned “all the words I actually need to use in situations such as work.” Alex passed the entrance exam at Penonomé, and still attends English class every week.

Kid success counts! As a group, the students in the FLM Art Classes are turning out amazing projects that will then be sold at the Coronado Crafts and Bake Sale at the Golf Club on Saturday, November 8th. The profits from the items that the children have been making over the past several months will be used to purchase more paints, brushes, and craft materials for their free Art Classes. Selling the children’s hand-made crafts means success to these young artists!

Finca La Maya wants to offer as many opportunities to the youth of Panama as possible.
However, it can not be done alone. The kids want to succeed. YOU can help them!
