The transport sector in Panama met in Chitré to request an urgent dialogue with the national government regarding the impact of high fuel costs.

With price stabilization mechanisms expiring on October 2, Panama is expecting protests starting September 30th 2026, in Panama City. While a national strike has not been declared, word is spreading on social media of upcoming protests in Panama. 

It is not just Panama; many countries are confronting a difficult question: Is it riskier to pass on price increases to the public, accelerating inflation, or offer subsidies that drive up public debt and possibly threaten the stability of national currencies?

When and where are the protests in Panama?

1. Civil Society March (Multi-Demand) Date & Time: Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 4:30 PM.Route: Starting at Parque Porras and marching toward the Plaza 5 de Mayo / National Assembly area.

2. Public Transit Sector Concentration (Transportistas) Date: Thursday, October 1, 2026. Location: Near the Presidencia de la República (Palacio de las Garzas) in Panama City.

Rely on Waze and community groups like Tráfico Panamá as road closures may occur in more places. Currently there are only demontrations happening in Panama City, however this could change. If traveling into or across Panama City, traveling very early in the morning (before 6:00 a.m.) is recommended.
