International Mothers Day in Panama 2026

While in Panama, Mother’s Day traditionally falls on December 8th. The International date for Mother’s Day in 2026 is May 10th. This day is also celebrated by many people living in Panama.

About Mother’s Day in Panama 

Mother’s Day has been celebrated in the United States and, since 1914, in Canada on the second Sunday in May.

While International Mother’s Day in Panama is not a national holiday, many families who have ties to the state will celebrate by giving flowers to their mothers.

 A large family meal is a commonplace on Mother’s Day in Panama, and for this reason, many restaurants have set menus and promotions to celebrate mom. 

 
In Panama, Mother’s Day was first introduced by the Rotary. At first, the day fell on the same date (the second Sunday in May) as the first celebrated day in 1924. The date was then changed to December 8 in 1930; the decision to change the date was made so the celebration would fall on the day of the Catholic celebration of the Immaculate Conception. 

The date change was in an effort to make the day relevant to the local culture, creating a national holiday to be celebrated by Panamanians all over the country.
