Coronado Community Garden Project

Coronado Community Garden Project

Recently, the International School located in the community of Coronado, Panama, announced the launch of its new community-powered garden project.

After months of hard work from their dedicated team and students, the Coronado International School was thrilled to share the fruits of its labour in the Christmas Market 2025.

This initiative is designed to enhance student learning and community engagement. This garden will provide students with hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture, promoting environmental stewardship and healthy eating.

By integrating this project into the school curriculum, students at CIS benefit from improved nutritional options and gain valuable life skills, all while fostering a deeper connection to their community.

Transforming Cafeteria Meals with Whole Ingredients

The community garden is a vital resource for the school cafeteria at CIS, supplying fresh, whole ingredients that replace processed foods. This shift not only improves the nutritional quality of meals but also has a profound impact on student behavior and performance.

By eliminating artificial dyes and preservatives, the school ensures that students are healthier and more focused, creating an environment where efficient, happy children thrive.

Empowering Students with Project-Based Learning

The garden is more than just a source of fresh produce; it is a living classroom. Students will learn about the lifecycle of plants, sustainable farming practices, and the importance of biodiversity. This knowledge will be put into practice during events like the recent Christmas market, where students sold garden-grown produce, learning firsthand about entrepreneurship and the potential for community gardens to generate income. These experiences are integral to developing practical skills and instilling a sense of responsibility and achievement.

In addition to agricultural learning, the garden project will serve as a foundation for other innovative projects, such as solar energy installations and artificial intelligence applications in farming. By integrating these technologies, International Schools aims to provide students with a cutting-edge education that prepares them for the challenges of the future.

Coronado International School

The CIS community offers families access to diverse interests and promotes a healthy lifestyle. With an 18-hole golf course, tennis, and pickleball courts, pools, and one of the most family-friendly surf breaks in Panama, CIS families have the opportunity to learn something new or develop a skill they already have.

CIS is more than an international school; it’s a community where families can cultivate friendships, pursue interests, and enjoy a balanced lifestyle while obtaining a world-class education with a Panamanian and a U.S. diploma. Education is a journey, and with the right resources and support, it can be a transformative experience for every child.
