Help release baby sea turtles in Panama

Baby sea turtles are hatching in several nurseries in Punta Chame, and events are being held throughout October to release the hatchlings and promote the protection of the species and their habitat.

The Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Environment (MiAMBIENTE) in Western Panama, together with the Tortuguias Foundation, released 64 newborn Kemp’s ridley sea turtles at Cabezo Beach

Mayerlin González explained that 218 eggs from three nests were relocated to a nursery for protection until hatching, enhancing survival chances against threats.

The event involved MiAMBIENTE officials, park rangers, and volunteers, emphasizing efforts to protect this endangered species. This initiative is part of a conservation program aimed at raising awareness and promoting community participation in safeguarding marine ecosystems and the Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, reinforcing the commitment to biodiversity and conservation for future generations.
