Swell arrives on Pacific Coast

Swell arrives on Pacific Coast

The National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) issued a surveillance advisory for the Pacific coast of Panama due to the arrival of a swell that will affect the coast.

The surveillance advisory for the Pacific coast of Panama is in effect from Sunday, August 24th, to Tuesday, August 26th. According to the warning, maritime conditions could pose significant risks to swimmers, artisanal fishermen, and boaters.

A swell, characterized by long, high waves that originate from distant locations, is generally generated by intense meteorological phenomena in the ocean.

According to the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (IMHPA), these waves have been generated from the southeastern Pacific Ocean, which could result in significant swells and rough seas on the coast.

Affected areas on Panama’s Pacific Coast

  • Panama

  • The Saints
  • Veraguas
