The 2025 ISA World Longboard Championship in Surf City, El Salvador:

1. Participation Continues to Break Records

A historic total of 143 athletes from 44 different nations will come together to vie for Team Gold medals, breaking last year’s record and more than doubling the participants from the inaugural WLC in 2013.

2. Gender Equality

The 2025 WLC is set to be the closest ISA event to achieving gender parity among competitors, with 69 women, representing over 48% of the participants, competing for their nations.

To foster gender equality in surfing and encourage women’s involvement, the ISA revised its competition format in 2017 to provide equal slots for men and women in its World Championship Series. Since the 2018 edition, the WLC has consistently broken records for female participation each year, highlighting the growth of women’s surfing worldwide.

3. Longboarding and the Olympic Games

The ISA has acknowledged the significant potential of longboarding in the Olympic Games, even though it was recently announced that longboarding will not be included in the lineup for Los Angeles 2028.
