Jamaica's hottest prospect in the sport of boxing, Nicholas Walters, is today ruing what could have been as he seeks to push on with his budding professional career.

The 'Axeman', who has made a flying start to his career, has suffered a minor setback on his journey as a fight which was set for Saturday in Panama was called off.

The young featherweight was to have fought his fourth fight at the Figali Convention Centre, Panama City. The Caribbean champion is three and zero since making his debut on August 2, when he battled to a unanimous four-round decision over Esteban Ramos at the Gimnasio Yuyin Luzcando, Betania, Panama.

Walters then faced Luis Gonzalez 17 days later and was ruthless in producing a second-round TKO, and it was back to work on September 11, when he clinically dispatched Armando Carpintero in only 1:51 of the first round.
Carpintero was knocked down two times in the round.

Walters, who has been training in Panama for the past three months, was naturally heartbroken to have had his fight scrapped. "My training was going well for the fight, my physical condition, mental condition is way up there, they told me, however, that the main event guy got sick and pulled out, so that set me back and I'm really disappointed."

Walters is, however, looking forward to this Saturday. "That was a setback (the cancelled fight), but now I have to look forward to Saturday, this is going to be a big fight, as the guy I'm gonna fight has been fighting six rounds. When I got to Panama he was the main event guy, now I've moved up in rank to fight him so it's gonna be a big deal." The CAC bronze medallist added: "I am now three and zero and definitely want to come back to Jamaica four and zero, so I'm taking this fight very seriously."

That opponent is 20-year-old Panama native Isaac Montenegro, who is 2-3-1.
