Panama’s Festival De La Mejorana
(costaricapages.com) Mark your calendars - one of Panama’s best festivals takes place next week. Festival de la Mejorana runs from September 23 to 28 in Guarare, Los Santos. This national festival is a great place to learn about Panamanian traditions and folklore.
La Mejorana is named after a Panamanian folkloric instrument, similar to a guitar. The purpose of the festival is to bring various folkloric groups from around the country to the small town of Guarare as a way to promote and maintain Panama’s folklore. Every year the festival draws thousands of people from across Panama and abroad.
The festival features musicians, dancers, parades, exhibits and demonstrations. Of course no Panamanian festival would be complete with out some great nightlife as well as a queen. Festival de la Mejorana includes all of these very typical Panamanian facets.
