2018 Mother’s Day in Panama
Did you know that Panama celebrates Mother’s Day on December 8th? The date coincides with the observance of the Immaculate Conception.
Mother’s Day in Panama is a National Holiday, observed by the entire country. It is a very important holiday for Panamanians, one on which women and mothers throughout the country are honored.
While Mother’s Day was not always celebrated in December in Panama, the decision to celebrate Mothers on this date was made in the 30’s by a Decree approved by President Belisario Porras. The change purposed by Catholic observance of the Immaculate Conception. Previously, Mother’s Day was celebrated on May 11th.
This year (2018) Mother’s Day falls on a Saturday, so the regular half day work day will now be a free day for Panamanians.
