Foreigner jailed for homicide

A woman driver who killed 18-year-old student Rosaida Lorenzo on a pedestrian crossing in front of the Technological University on July 26 has been charged with culpable homicide.

The young woman behind the wheel was a foreigner without a driving license.

The Public Ministry laid the charge on Tuesday, July 31 and has requested a precautionary measure of provisional detention considering the seriousness of the crime. An appeal of the precautionary measure will be held next Tuesday, August 7, at 2:30 pm, in room 12 of the accusatory criminal system of the Plaza Ágora.

Fellow students held a peaceful protest on Monday on Via Centenario placing calculators, helmets, and books on the crossing as a tribute to her life.
