Panama launches energy-saving ‘Operation Light Bulb’

newsnviews2.jpg(energyefficiencynews.com) In a measure designed to reduce soaring energy consumption, the president of Panama, Martin Torrijos, has announced plans to distribute six million energy-saving light bulbs.

During ‘Operation Light Bulb’, the Panamanian government will purchase fluorescent light bulbs worth $13 million and hand them out to citizens to replace less-efficient incandescent bulbs. The first batch of three million bulbs is due to be distributed in Panama City later this month.

Panama is experiencing rapid economic growth and the country’s energy providers are struggling to keep pace with the concurrent increasing demand for energy.
