A visit to Expo Flora

From  August 20 to Saturday August 23, the Second ExpoFlora was held at the Museo Antropologico de Panama-Reina Torres de Arauz.Sharon Rennie, Deb Turl, Alana Berry, Edel Corbett and Barb Schlottke made the trip to Panama to see the flowers.   There amongst the Inca gold artifacts and other historical items were the plants and flowers for display. There were 3 floors of beautiful and tastefully displayed plants, floral arrangements and center pieces. And there were were different varities of plants displayed along the winding walkway to the top floor.   We met former Coronado resident Lyda Arenas who was in charge of the flower show and she told us that the judges were from the United States and they had just judged some flower shows in South America, but said the show was better and displayed execellently. Then she was off to talk to a visiting group of school children.

Each grouping of plants was arranged in different areas and I was partically interested in the Bonsai. You could see from the root system on the trees that some of these trees were very old. We were all able to learn the English name for alot of the plants we all had in our yards and that was a great help for some of us beginning florists. And we were able to see new ways of displaying some of our plants.

Another Coronado resident Leda Walti had some of her plants in the Flora Show and she won 1st place Blue Ribbons with them.
It was a wonderful show mixed in with alot of history and we look forward to next year's ExpoFlora.
