Back To Basics Fishing In Panama
Many tourists come to Panama to experience the great deep sea fishing available off the coasts. Far fewer visitors have had an opportunity to take part in a much simpler type of fishing: hand-line fishing.
This process is very simple and much less expensive than trolling or other types of fishing common in Panama. To go line fishing all you need is a boat, a few gallons of gas, some hooks, bait and a strong pair of hands.
This is the way many local fisherman in Panama earn their living. Granted some do have trolling rods but since the rods are quite expensive most fisherman opt to use hand lines instead. Trolling has its advantages namely that you can catch much larger fish, but when using a hand line, a day out on the water is usually a lot more action packed.
It is not uncommon to catch more than one hundred fish in an 8 hour day out on the Pacific. The fish are usually only a couple of pounds but when your line is being grabbed every couple of minutes by a corvina (sea bass) or pargo (red snapper), it sure is exciting!
