Ex Chame Mayor Among 51 to Receive Reduced Sentences

President Juan Carlos Varela has granted reduced sentence to the ex Chame mayor, Euclides Mayorga, the father of the current mayor. His daughter, Nieves Mayorga Caballero currently holds the office after winning elections in 2014.

 

Euclides Mayorga who served a sentence of three years in La Joya prison is currently under house arrest. His conviction was for collecting kickbacks from the allocation of land plots in 2009.

On July 12th the Official Gazette published Executive Decree No. 179 of June 30, 2016 which held the executives decision to lower the prison sentence and any additional penalty pending for Mayorga. The decree benefited 51 other detainees in different prisons throughout the country.

Mayorga, mayor of Chame from 1989 to 2009, told Telemetro that he was not aware of the decision to reduce his sentence.
