Shop at the Río Hato Market
Looking for some local produce and fresh seafood? The Río Hato Market is a great place to find both! Located just off the Panamerican Highway, 100 meters from the Río Hato airport right beside the Resort Playa Blanca Panama, the market is a great place for travelers and locals alike to shop for fresh local food items and handicrafts.
The market is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and resembles the Panama City fish market on a smaller scale.
Fishermen offer the catch of the day including snapper, corvina, lobster, shrimp and more, if you are diving from Coronado don’t forget your cooler! There is also an abundance of fresh produce at the market. Chabelo (pictured here) is one of the vendors at the market offering an array of freshly harvested greens including red lettuce and baby boc choy.
Outside the market horticulturalists offer a wide range of potted plants, and artisans create handmade items like varnished decorative gourds, kitted baby clothing, carvings, paintings, molas and more.
One of the greatest elements the market brings to the table is its ability to connect local vendors directly with buyers. Shoppers can feel good about supporting the local community, from fishermen to artists, horticulturalists and agriculturalists.
