Canadian Ambassador Visits Coronado

The new Ambassador of Canada, Karine Asselin, and her staff were in the beach Wednesday Jan 6  2016 to meet with Canadian Citizens. The team, which included the Ambassador, Consular and Consular Officer, introduced themselves to many Canadians in the area, answering a wide range of questions to the best of their ability.

Those in attendance were  reminded to register with the Canadian Embassy online at Travel.gc.ca/register. The list is used to contact Canadians living in Panama in the case of an emergency situation. Due to Canadian privacy laws this list remains confidential and is solely used for locating Canadians in Panama if a situation where they may be in need of assistance from their government arrises. The Ambassador and her team explained that this information is not shared with other branches of the government.

The event, hosted in the home of CASA president Louise Belisle with the assistance of the area’s Warden Susana Cheng and Assistant Warden Sheila Scott, was a great success. Wardens and community organizations like CASA are integral to connecting the expat community in Panama with the Canadian Embassy and Ambassador. The three ladies were presented with tokens of appreciation from the embassy at the meet and greet.

If you are seeking more information from the Canadian Embassy contact the Consular Officer Debora G. Herrera. Sra. Herrera has been with the agency for over 20 years. She can be reached by phone at 507-294-2500 or by email at debora.deherrera@International.gc.ca
