newsnviews2.jpg(insidecostarica.com) Unions and student organizations in Panama said on Monday to be stepping up preparations for a national strike to demand better living conditions.

In a communique, the FRENADESO (National Front for the Defense of Economic and Social Rights) mentions the holding of street gatherings, road blockages, staged strikes, and spreading tasks, among other actions to be carried out.

The text explains that in a meeting on Saturday, organizers decided to formalize activities of the National Coordinating Committee for Respect of Life and Dignity of the Panamanian People and its provincial authorities.

The consultation process continues in organizations grouped by FRENADESO to agree on a date for the strike to demand a salary hike and a drop in basic-product prices.

They also ratified the holding of a national march on August 14 from downtown Panama City to the presidential headquarters.

Both, the demonstration and the strike were backed by ULIP (the Unity of Integral Struggle of the People) during a meeting of national leaders on Saturday.
