Help needed at the Hogar Beatriz Jaen Orphanage

A message from CASA Last week CASA received quite a few messages from concerned citizens that heard that an orphanage in Penonome did not have enough money to buy food to meet the end of the month.  There are two reasons for this problem, they have more children that they should and that since the government has changed, the arrangements with suppliers are not finalized, so no food deliveries in the interim. We are hoping that this is a temporary issue and that eventually all these issues will go away and they can go on with business as usual. A plea to the community was sent out and some funds were gathered to help with this immediate problem. CASA member Cilla Walsh was able to contribute $100 towards the problem and took care of business temporarily. There are 43 children presently on site and what she was able to purchase will not last very long.

We are sending a plea to please help with a financial donation to help carry them till the food issues are resolved. If you are not in Panama and would like to donate, you can do so Via paypal. Please send your donate to the paypal account jamuna@playacommunity.com

Cilla will also be at Picasso's happy hour on Wednesday and will be available for questions and donations both financial and in kind. Please see her report below of what she was able to do last week with $100.

We met with Maribel in Penonome and went to the factory of Toledano and purchased the following,
74 lb Chicken
5 doz eggs
2 lb Pollo Salchica

They delivered to the Orphanage. We were welcomed to visit and the children were having lunch. We were shown around the bedrooms with their beds and cots beside for the babies. We were introduced to the mothers of these beautiful babies the first one being only 13 and the father had raped her. I guess most of the stories are of a similar nature. They have a nice clean home but a little crowded. Two young girls who are heavily pregnant again still babies themselves. They are safe now.

We are told they need money for gas as they go through a large tank  every 15 days. Also, Pampers would be welcomed, new born to 12months or more. Donations of baby items from  baby cloths, soft toys etc. are needed.

We are planning on returning again next Saturday. Please, if anyone can supply any items they would be greatly appreciated.
