Locos Coronado's 24-Hour Playwriting Contest
Are you creative? Do you like to perform? Do you think you can pull together a short play from scratch within a 24-hour period? That's what Locos Coronado's 24-Hour Playwriting Contest is all about. The first step is putting together your team. Teams consist of two or three people: two or three actors or, if you'd like, two actors and a director. If all your friends are too chicken to try it, send an email to amanda@locospanama.com and we'll see if we can match you with other solo participants.
On Friday, March 21, teams and individuals will meet at Locos at 7:00pm to receive the guidelines for the competition. This could include rules like you must include a certain prop or a certain word in your script. If you can't make it, no worries -- shoot us an email to tell us who your team is and we'll send you the rules later that evening.
From that point, the teams will have 24 hours to write, rehearse, and perform their short play (usually just 2-10 minutes long, unless you're really ambitious!). You can write together as a team, or you can assign the writing task to one especially talented team member while you go to bed. Up to you! Teams will be given a little gift to get the creative juices flowing.
On Saturday, March 22, teams will reconvene at Locos to perform their works. The pressure is off -- although our team of judges will be selecting a winner, the truth is that forgetting a line and forging on is half the fun. Indeed, such a heroic act may push your team to victory!
Aside from the guidelines to give you a place to start, there are no rules -- so come out, have fun, and let's see what this town is capable of!
