Rocking And Rolling In Retirement
When Steve and Adele Doane retired to Panama seven years ago they never imagined themselves in a rock and roll band. But with plenty of spare time and a circle of musical friends that’s exactly what happened. About once a month the duo would join a group of friends for a music jam session just for fun. In February 2012 during an informal session at Paraiso, Restaurant in Las Uvas, the group received positve feedback from the restaurant diners. In fact, they were so well received that they decided to take it one step further and form a group. After months of hard work and determination, Poco Loco classic rock and roll band was born.
The band’s revolving music venue is subject to change during any given performance depending on the crowd. “We watch what people are dancing to and if necessary, we change our song line-up,” said Steve. “Our goal is to get people out of their seats and up on to the dance floor.” He went on to explain that a younger crowd doesn’t necessarily want to dance to the same type of music that retirees do, so they adjust their playlist accordingly. The band has undergone a recent evolution as members moved on for various reasons opening the door for new musicians to jump on board.
Poco Loco has performed throughout the beach communities along with several gigs in Panama City. “The best part of performing is watching people enjoying themselves, dancing and singing along,” Adele said. “We get so much positive energy from the audience, it’s an amazing experience for us.” The band is extremely grateful for the wonderful community support that they have received.
The current band members bring a variety of musical talents to the group, and come from various walks of life. Carlos Morales is a skilled Panamanian bassist and lead guitarist. Carlos is also a guitar instructor and plays in a local band in La Chorrera. John Walling is a young, talented studio drummer from San Diego, California. Jim Votaw is an experienced guitarist and vocalist with many years in the music and radio industry. Steve Doane is a vocalist along with his wife Adele who plays flute, keyboard and sings back up vocals.
The band is available for private parties, weddings, corporate events, restaurants and clubs. To book an event please contact band manager Adele at: PocoLocoRocks@hotmail.com, Cell- 507-6030-8468.
