San Carlos Gets Centralized Crime Processing Office

The office of The Attorney General in Panama, has opened a central crime processing office in San Carlos. The office will centralize the Prosecutor’s office and the DIJ. 

 Plans include a small holding cell and a legal doctor, to process victims of crime. In a La Prensa article, Ana Belfon, Attorney General of Panama pointed out that this type of restructuring is part of a strategy that aims at providing greater security for national and foreign citizens in the Pacific coast areas. She pointed out that crime in the area has grown, become organized and has acquired a greater level of complexity.

 The idea is to implement early investigation and decision on crimes. The office will attend the public from Chame and San Carlos 24 /7.



 

The new unit will have 2 delegated prosecutors working 24 hours a day. A Municipal Prosecutor will take complains between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday. A Delegated Prosecutor will attend from 4pm - 11pm. From 11pm to 8am the next morning and on weekends a Delegated Prosecutor will be on call via telephone.

The new office is located in the San Carlos right across from the medical center.
