Tao Rodriguez Villarreal Competes to be Quicksilver‘s King of the Groms

Grom, short for grommet, is surfer slang for a young surfer. Tao is the ultimate grom, he is a dedicated surfer and student with serious drive. This year Tao is competing to be Quicksilver’s King of the Groms!

Quicksilver King of the Groms is a surf contest that gives young surf talents the opportunity to get noticed. Surfers from all over the world have entered by posting videos highlighting their surfing abilities.

The 20 surfers with the highest number of “Likes” in each region will be pre-selected for the next stage of competition. A panel of expert judges will then view the top 20 videos and select a winner from each region. 18 surfers (one from Central America, South America & the Caribbean) will be chosen to compete in the Quicksilver King of the Groms final in France.

At the young age of 10 Tao is already a serious competitor. He’s got that ‘no fear’ attitude and an interest in the sport that is sure to take him far.
