SOS Benefit Concert Update

Expats get involved!  Bobby Henderson and his new band gave a benefit concert on  Wednesday June 19th at Picasso’s from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. for the benefit of the SOS Children`s Village in Penonome and raised $689.00 which he topped off to a generous $700!  A great time was had by all, listening to oldies, playing along to the trivia questions and dancing up a storm!  Bobby and his team have done several activities peppered with his music to help SOS orphanage and their supporters. He has put together in the past Trivia nights, Play that Tune and general concerts to benefit this organization.

For the past few years several Ex-Pat and Panamanian volunteers have visited the SOS Children’s Village in Penonome, where they offer their time, energy and resources to help in the lives of the children and their house mothers. The SOS Children’s Village organization takes care of the children’s basic needs - food, shelter, clothing and education, so all the help the kids can get is an added bonus, Each of the 14 Casas has a housemother and 8 to 11 children.

Cilla Walsh and her team visited two of the homes and gives an example on what they do to help out:

“Just to let you all know what we are doing at SOS Penonome and how we are spending the funds we raise. Have just purchased crocs for the children of  Casa 5 and Casa 8 for playing in. Last visit we took along craft foam cutouts of trains, dinosaurs and butterflies for the children to decorate and they then put them on their bedroom walls. We try to visit every two or three weeks and look for things to do with them, Also, we take along treats and sometimes food for the house mother to cook.

We still need someone to visit Casa 8 on a regular basis and  to spend time doing things with them. If any of you are interested in helping with this please contact me. Cilla Walsh  at  Cillaincyprus@yahoo.co.uk
