A Message from Spay the Strays
Have you wondered where Spay the Strays (STS) has been lately? We have been diligently working to obtain the anesthesia necessary to spay and neuter animals in the area surrounding Coronado. We ran into some obstacles but are happy to report we are back in business! On Saturday, STS held a clinic in Sora to try out our new protocol and it was completely successful. We spayed and neutered 49 animals of which 8 were homeless dogs who live at the Altos del Maria basura. The best news is that 1 was a puppy who was adopted during the clinic! Our intrepid volunteers madly moved animals, people, operating tables, etc to escape a flood inside the building during a torrential downpour. Despite darkness and water, our wonderful vets continued to work!
STS was founded in 2007 and since then has operated on more than 2,500 animals. STS provides spay/neuter services for street dogs and for those pets of low income families who would not have their animals spayed or neutered due to lack of funds. No payment is required but donations are accepted and no one is ever turned away even if they are unable to donate.
This year our Group will be conducting several clinics still in our region, but a little farther off the beaten path. In many of these areas residents do not have the opportunity to see a vet. We will provide transportation for owners and pets when needed. STS covers the cost of these clinics through various fundraising activities (keep posted for an exciting one coming up in November!) STS has been so successful because of our dedicated volunteers. We know there are a lot of worthy causes where you can donate your time, energy, and money thus we appreciate everyone who makes the effort to help us! We believe strongly that we can all work hard under trying conditions and still have a lot of fun! All those who work at clinics, provide snacks or lunch, buy dog food, support our fundraisers or donate to us are invaluable! We couldn't do it without you!
Please take a look at the photos of our last clinic and mark the date of 27 July on your calendar for our next one. We will be sending out a message with details. STS has Facebook page which is a great way to keep track of us. Just type in Spay the Strays – Panama in the search area. If you are new to us and would like to join our family of volunteers, send an email to spaythestrayspanama@yahoo.com and we will be certain to put you on our mailing list.
