Personal Safety at the Beaches
The sad news is that it takes something going wrong for people to pay attention to safety. Gorgona’s Vecino Vigilantes (Neighbourhood Wach) Program, run by Jim Rizik knows this. Jim a retired expat, is a 24 year veteran of the Chicago Police Department has this to say about personal safety: “You have to be aware of what is going on around you”. Together with Perry McMullin, Gorgona’s Vecino’s program will be hosting classes on Personal Safety. The classes will focus on prevention and awareness, to avoid becoming a target. “As expats, we tend to walk around in a bubble” says Perry. “We are not paying attention to people and events around us.” Perry, another veteran law officer and crime scene investigator, says “Being safe is not about Panama, criminals take advantage of opportunities all over the world”. Perry says that in his career he has seen many crimes that could have been prevented, by simple awareness to personal safety.
Personal Safety and Home Safety classes begin on April 5, 2013 at 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm at Loco's in Gorgona. Please RSVP with me so Loco's will know how many are coming. I look forward to seeing you there. Loco's will be serving food and drinks at a reasonable cost.
