In Loving Memory of Eldon Worobieff
With profound sadness, I need to tell all that my loving husband, Eldon Worobieff passed away very suddenly on Feb 1st 2013, at the age of 73. Eldon and I have been enjoying our winters in our second home in Panama, where his untimely death occurred. He suffered from a ruptured Aortic Aneurysm and died on the operating table. Eldon will best be remembered by his many friends as a most optimist, caring individual -- one of the great ones. I have had the privilege of the love of this great man for the last 33 years and have been blessed. Eldon came from a poor but much loved family, and went on to do amazing things in his life. He began his working career in the RCMP, but decided this work wasn't for him. He then went to UBC where he obtained a degree in education. During his time at UBC he took up rowing, where he went on to be an Olympic athlete, (rowing '64). He then went to the University of Southern California, where he obtained his master degree. He taught and coached and stared the women's rowing program at the University of Pepperdine in Santa Barbara. Eldon moved to Kelowna in 1975 and held the position of recreation, athletic, and student affairs director at Okanagan College. In the early 80s, Eldon made a career change and became a financial planner and stock broker. In 2001, Eldon retired after managing the local National Bank Financial office. Eldon touched so many individuals in his life that this note can't begin to describe. He was a long serving member of the Kelowna Gyro Club. He recently was awarded (2011), an induction to the Sports Hall of Fame for his contributions to Pepperdine University, Santa Barbara. He had a great love for fishing in the Douglas Channel.
Eldon is survived by me, his loving wife, Leslie McCreary and my family, (especially Didi McCreary and Mark Hanley and their son, David) who were here for me in his untimely passing. He is survived also by Alix McCreary; Gillian (Rick Ast) and daughters Meghan and Molly; Bill McCreary; Don McCreary(Caran Magaw, Robyn, Caley) ; Eldon's cousins, Karen, Dwayne, Dan, Susanne and Nick Karateew; his aunts Myra and Marnie Karateew, also morn his passing. Dear friends, I will be bringing Eldon's ashes home to Kelowna, with me in April. We will have a celebration of his life May 17th, his 74th birthday.
For our Panama friends there will be a celebration of life event on Sunday Feb 24th, 4:30 to 7:30 at casa 101 Vista Mar. Toasting to start @ 6.
Forever his loving wife, partner and best friend. Leslie
