Spay & Neuter Clinic in San Carlos - Feb 17

Spay Panama announces the next monthly spay event in CASA DE LA CULTURA of San Jose, San Carlos on Sunday, February 17, 2013. The monthly spay clinics target strays and pets of low-income families and rescued animals. A fully funded clinic will not only spay the animal, but deworming, cleaning of the ears, spray against fleas and ticks, injection of vitamins will also take place. When possible, dogs are vaccinated with a 3-year rabies vaccine. The San Carlos clinic will operate on a first-come first- served basis from, 8am – 1pm.The organization goes into Panama's neighborhoods, sets up mobile clinics and does on-site spays and neuters for cost, relying on volunteers and donations as they go. Spay Panama was started in Panama in 2001. For years, a small group of volunteers and vets worked together to make a difference and improve the welfare of the less fortunate animals. The more animals were sterilized, the more animals Pat Chan, founder of Spay Panama, saw that needed to be done. In 2006, the organization partnered with Dr. Isis Johnson-Brown of Animals Yes, USA and formed Spay Panama Animals Yes, USA. The non-profit organization offer vet students and veterinarians from other countries the opportunity for hands-on experience and share their knowledge with local vets, while enjoying another culture and making a difference for the less fortunate dogs and cats in Panama.

With a mission to improve health and care of animals in Panama, Spay Panama, not only sets up sterilization campaigns throughout the country, they also visits schools to educate children and teachers on animal welfare. They also train veterinarians on the 'Quick Spay' technique so that they can work with their own communities.

In 2012, the group spayed 10,000 dogs and cats in Panama.
