Carols by Candlelight

Carols by Candlelight is a concert in which a candle-bearing audience gets to join in with on-stage performers in singing holiday songs to raise money for charitable causes. The event will be held in Plaza de Francia, Casco Viejo, on Saturday, December 15 from 7:00 p.m. This large, emblematic plaza is a perfect spot to enjoy a holiday spectacle. Now in its second year, with an expanded program of ten performing groups, it will raise funds for Hogar Malambo, Hospital Santo Tomas, and Casa Brown (a retirement home for aged indigent people in Panama City). Other choral groups are welcome to attend and sing along and join in the finale. Each choral group will perform  its own selection of music for 15 minutes. All choral groups will join in the finale. The current performance cast includes the National Youth Orchestra, Panama Pacifico Academy, Kings College, Hogar Malambo, Godspell Chorus, Venezuela Encanto, the Panama Opera and Coro Redencion. The National Ballet will perform extracts from the Nutcracker as well.

In addition to the music, 20,000 books containing the words of songs in Spanish and English, will be distributed throughout Panama, and will be made available to schools, churches and community groups. Some 10,000 LED souvenir candles, donated by Panama Pacífico, will be available in two sizes and may be obtained for a donation of $5 or $10. Orders of $25 or more will be delivered.

Event organizers, the CanadaPLUS Club, are asking those who wish to support the less fortunate people in the community to donate extra candles which will be distributed through Churches and Community groups.

Attending Carols by Candlelight is free, but reserved seats are available for a  $10 donation prepaid or $15 on performance day. Candles and seats may be ordered from carolspanama@gmail.com or by calling 6619-6890.

Candles and books will also be available in the Playacommunity office in Coronado.
