A parent’s perspective on the Coronado International School
On August 30th, the new Coronado International School proudly opened its doors to the first class of entering students. Now, with the opening of the new Coronado International School, residents have a choice of three excellent alternatives for international schools available within a 30-minute radius. The Coronado International School is a private bilingual school that was founded by Group Coronado. The school is dedicated to providing a quality, affordable education with a curriculum that will prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of a 21st century global society. Over 22 students are currently enrolled in classes from pre-kinder to grade four. The school is located in the area, Colinas del Mar, just a short two minutes from the Pan American. Applicants must complete a comprehensive application process, including an interview for both the applicant and parents by a licensed school psychologist.
In addition to a curriculum that complies with the requirements of the Panama Ministry of Education, school officials will be seeking to obtain the status of International Baccalaureate School for its students. Students are also able to utilize the various services of the Coronado resort for classes in tennis, swimming, and equestrian training. Parents are being encouraged to contribute their time to participate in the growth of the school.
As a parents and new residents to the Coronado area, we were impressed with the new facility and the enthusiasm of the staff members and the faculty preparing for opening day. We learned that for some time there has been an on-going discussion among the community of Coronado that more famiiies might consider a full time residence if the community could support it’s own international school. Accordingly, there has been a significant level of excitement leading up to the recent opening, with local families and foreigners from various countries exhibiting interest. The current student body includes a diverse mix with students enrolled from Canada, Chile, Colombia, Indonesia, Panama, and the United States. School administration reports that representation from additional countries is anticipated for the next semester.
Coronado International School plans to develop the curriculum to host future students in all grade levels from Pre-K to high school.
Kudos to Group Coronado for its efforts to provide this grass roots opportunity for the children and community of Coronado.
