Bayside Center – New Commercial Plaza in Coronado

Bayside Center, a new commercial plaza celebrated their opening last weekend, with a 100% occupancy rate of their 16 storefronts. The team behind Bayside seems to have the right formula for attracting commerce into the Panama's Pacific beach area. Located on the InterAmerican Highway, just minutes from the entrance to Coronado, Bayside Center is the realization of a dream come true for Susana Cheng, her brother Alex and their father Mario Cheng. The family owns and operates the popular HIM (Home Improvements and More) store in Coronado, which has been in business in Coronado for ten years. On Saturday 28th, the first Bayside Center tenants stood side-by-side for the ribbon cutting ceremony, to officially announce the center open. Even as merchants prepare for business, Susana Cheng has already started planning Phase Two of Bayside Center's expansion.

I asked Susana Cheng, what she attributed Bayside’s high occupancy level to, “The mixture of the businesses are carefully executed”, she said, “they all complement each other”.

Indeed, ELMEC, HIM and MELO three heavy duty stores, play to each other’s strengths as far as home and garden renovations are concerned. They give the plaza a rock solid foundation and carry products that a growing consumer base are looking for. Another contributing factor to the commercial plaza’s success is the Cheng family’s reputation in Panama’s commercial circles and the vision that Mario Cheng has passed on to his children, who work tirelessly to make things happen.

While HIM has opened a brand new location at Bayside Center, the flagship store on Roberto Eisenmann Drive, will continue to operate, serving the construction industry.

Suan Sculpting Spa is another Cheng initiative. With a corner location at Bayside Center, they are the first to bring revolutionary beauty treatments and products to Panama.
