A DAY AT THE RACES - CASA ACTIVITY

A great day was had by all! One of CASA’s (Coronado Area Social Association) mandate is to have social activities for its members.  Sunday, a mini-bus left with a group around 11:30 to go to the President Remon Racetrack in the city to spend the afternoon. This racetrack has been called the "The Cradle of the Best Jockeys of the World", due to the many world-famous jockeys produced there, the most famous being Lafitt Pincay Jr. who at the time of his retirement, on April, 29, 2003, totaled 9,530 wins.  (There is a bust statue of him on the track).  This is the only racetrack in Central America. Once arrived at the Hippodrome, we were ushered up to the air conditioned Club House where there was a table ready for us with a clear view of the track.  We ordered a nice lunch and drinks (at quite affordable prices), making this a very comfortable and pleasant experience, racing forms in hand we were ready to start making our bets or just check out the action.

After lunch and a few races, we were invited to visit the premises which included a view of the viewing stands, the parade rink where you can check out the horses being prepared for the following race.  You can then evaluate and decide on which one you want to place a bet on.  We were lucky enough to see the only female jockey in Panama!  We were then invited to have our picture taken with the winner of the previous race in the winner’s circle, making this day extra special.
