( news.holidayhypermarket.co.uk) Panama, Nepal and Argentina are destinations that are increasing in popularity with backpackers and student travellers, one expert has said this week.
According to STA Travel, Panama has grown in popularity by 154 per cent over the last year, with backpackers taking advantage of the nation's snorkelling and hiking facilities.
However, the specialist tour operator for backpackers and gap year travellers claims that, despite this, Australia, Thailand and South America remain the most popular destinations.
Celia Pronto, UK marketing director of STA Travel, offered backpackers heading off to any of these destinations some advice.
She said: "We would recommend that travellers plan as much of their trip as possible in advance.
"Travel insurance is an absolute must for any traveller to ensure they are covered for every eventuality, wherever they are in the world."
Ms Pronto also advised that travellers opt for round-the-world flight deals, as they are "much easier to manage" than juggling a selection of individual tickets.
