Food security of Panama and other Central American countries will be guaranteed with the support of the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Panamanian Agriculture Development Minister Guillermo Salazar said Monday.
Implementing a regional program, the FAO will distribute seeds, tools and machinery to Central American countries to promote agricultural production, said Salazar.
The program, one of the measures to address surging price of grains, was adopted at the FAO's 30th Regional Conference in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia last week.
Panama will also host a meeting of Central American ministers of agriculture, environment and health in this regard on April 24-25.
"Two of the key issues we are going to discuss are financing measures and purchasing of products," Salazar said.
Panama will host FAO's 31st Regional Conference in April 2010.
