Diablos rojos and mining protesters block public highways

(PanamaNewsRoom) THURSDAY FEBRUARY 24. Owners of  diablos rojos (outdated and retired U.S. school buses) closed the  Pan American Highway in the  Pacora  region  for over 5 hours today, and blocked access to the Corridor Sur.
They are demanding higher  compensation for being replaced by the new Metro bus system. The carriers are also complaining that the new system will operate in areas around Pacora.

The roads were blocked by 12 aging diablos rojos from 5 a.m.
Their owners have been negotiating with the Transit Authority since last year. They want to receive more than $35,000 to exit the public transport system.
In other parts of Pacora, protests  by indigenous groups and supporters continued over the changes to the mining laws, with more demonstrations promised for later in the day in Panama City.
