Petaqilla gets pass on $1.9 million fine

 

(PanamaNewsRoom) Petaquilla Gold is off the hook for a $1.9 million fine by Panama’s national environmental authority Anam.

A Supreme Court Ruling said its decision was based on the fact that the plaintiffs were not afforded the right to present a defense during the process. but the agency is not precluded from continuing with the administrative process in the case.

The court wrote: "(Anam) did not follow any of the valid procedures to notify the defendant, resulting in a constitutional breach that affected the administrative process,"
Meanwhile anti mining demonstrations are continuing across the country.
