A fun fest in the country will raise funds for Panamanian youngsters

(PanamaNewsRoom) The benefit celebration on Saturday 26 February, promises to outshine even the most memorable of previous fund raisers.
Festivities will include, live music, children performing folkloric dances, performing horses, refreshments, and surprise entertainment. A silent auction will include a wide range of offerings from a private plane tour, a cruise aboard a luxurious yacht, surf lessons, beach getaway weekends, and dining certificates for numerous popular and new restaurants in the beach communities.

It will also provide the opportunity for celebrants to see where theie money will be going with visits to La Maya’s classrooms and library stacked with books in English and Spanish.

Proceeds the benefit will provide scholarships and study materials for outstanding young students who help teach La Maya’s free community programs every Saturday. Individuals or companies who can donate an item or service for the silent auction are encouraged to contact Finca La Maya and its energetic director Starr McCammant directly.

Finca La Maya, just an hour from Panama City, is a non-profit activity aiming to enhance educational and vocational opportunities for local Panamanians by providing free enrichment programs in language, culture and the arts. La Maya’s programs include English language courses, “Art for Kids”, a Computer Lab and “Family Movie Night”.

Last year, La Maya opened a new community library offering bi-lingual books and DVDs. Up to one hundred participants have attended the weekly free community programs at the facility in San Carlos, coming from Panama’s Pacific coast interior communities as far away as Chorrera and Rio Hato.

La Maya welcomes local families and residents as well as those who want to learn more about how the programs are changing the lives of local families. A day in the country, fresh air, good eats, and helping your Panamanian hosts from 3 to 7 p.m. It’s worth the trip.
