Introducing Artist: Shirley van der Dijs Mills

A Panamanian of Dutch descent, Shirley spent most of her adult life in the U.S. (Georgia). She came home to Panama 11 years ago with her American husband, Jerry Mills. They settled in El Valle.   Having painted most of her life in the U.S., she has been astounded at how profoundly the plants and natural settings in Panama have changed her work.    “Plants are like magnets for me”, says Shirley. “As I paint them, I literally fall in love with the plant, the paint colors and the process”.  

Shirley shows her work in her home by appointment and annually, in El Arte en El Parque in Penonome which is scheduled in 2008 on March 21st and with El Grupo Expresiones de Arte in El Valle (date to be announced).
